“The life of a designer is a life of fight;
fight against the ugliness.”

fight against the ugliness.”
Massimo Vignelli interview in Helvetica
My professional design career began over 25 years ago, but the story started much earlier than that, possibly with that first Brownie camera given to me as a child which sparked my zeal for capturing images. Cut to middle school and you`ll find a girl snapping her Instamatic and scrap-booking photos and articles about her favorite TV shows, trying to improve on Starlog and Tiger Beat magazines. A love of images and type was a sure sign of a future graphic artist. Fast-forward to college: before I ever heard the term ‘page layout’ I was pulling out spreads from music and fashion magazines because I liked the way they composed text, colors, graphics and photos.
I`ve worked with a wide variety of customers in Chicago and San Diego including SeaWorld®, Jewel Food Stores, Croce's Restaurant, the Fountain of Youth Spa RV Resort, nonprofit organizations such as The Children`s Initiative and the Pacific Arts Movement, individuals, local musicians and more. Many of them have been kind enough to write a little about their experience with my work.

Testimonials
“I’ve worked with Marilyn for the past three years on graphic design projects for the San Diego Asian Film Foundation. What I appreciate most about her is her incredibly quick turn around time. Projects that would have taken much longer to complete, she’s able to whip together in half the time (but still maintains quality). She’s very passionate about the groups she works with, which really shines in the design aspects.” — Dan Matthews, Marketing Director, San Diego Asian Film Foundation
“It’s an absolute pleasure to work with Marilyn. She’s quick, her work is clean, and she is always open to feedback. She helped design our film festival and film foundation collateral for 4 years, and during that time, our organization only got bigger and better. Coincidence? I think not! And the best part is that she really cares about her clients, and she LOVES designing. That is the kind of designer everyone needs to work with!” — Lee Ann Kim, Executive Director, San Diego Asian Film Foundation
“While at Dahlstrom Display, Marilyn provided not just a large volume of work at a high level, but many times when called upon to meet a client’s needs, changed the course mighty rivers in helping the company. She was a key force in the growth of Dahlstrom Display’s graphic department. Over these many years I have leaned on Marilyn to help accomplish the unbelievable to serve our customers.” — Ross Iazzetto, President, Dahlstrom Display, Inc
“I’ve been in the print business for nearly twenty years and I used to shudder when I heard the words “Graphic Artist”. My experience has been that even graphic artists who can create a pleasing design do not understand that the design needs to work as a finished print piece. Marilyn Jones changed that impression. I have worked with her for years now and she is without a doubt the best, most ethical designer I know. She provides graphics faster than most people return phone calls and when she does a design I know it will be to the specifications I need to get the job printed. She is a rarity in the graphics industry as she truly gets the big picture that design work is just not creating a pretty picture but a fundamental part of a finished product.” — Dave Siddons, Form-Craft Business Systems
“Marilyn met with me a couple of times to talk about our organization and look at the art work we had for her. She went away and produced a brochure that exactly expressed the nature of our development work in Bolivia and the people we work with. We now have a visually attractive and informative brochure that will attract and excite our supporters.” — Ken Barratt, Quaker Bolivia Link
“You’re a pleasure to work with: professional yet pleasant, attentive to our needs and goals and willing to offer helpful suggestions which produce a better outcome, not to mention your artistic eye and ability. You’re truly a designer, who understands the concerns of business owners as well. A winning combo. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend your services to anyone. I look forward to our next project. Keep up the great work!” — Jolene Wade, Fountain of Youth Spa RV Resort
